The most significant development in the Gulf in the past 18 months is the emergence of large scale rail infrastructure. The Dubai Metro opened a few days ago and will revolutionise transportation for the whole of the region as similar projects are underway in Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Saudi Arabia.

Asides a planned extension to the Dubai Metro, Abu Dhabi has planned it’s own LRT/Metro system which will see $10bn of investment into the project. The scheme is now at design and feasibility stage and construction is set to begin shortly. One thing that stands out is that there is a lack of skills, particularly in rail infrastructure in the region, so opportunities for those with relevant experience are good .

The business is a top 10 global consultancy with a strong background in both the region and within transport. They are already involved in a cross-section of large projects within the Gulf, so they have a strong established presence with a good structure .

The role is for a senior QS who has extensive experience with pre contract commercial management of infrastructure projects. Given that there will be a lot of work on cost planning, estimating and procurement, some exposure to this will be advantageous. There is a strong preference for MRICS and GCC or international experience will improve your candidature. Non English-speaking candidates must have achieved a degree from a UK or US university to satisfy the level of English required for the position.

The company will accommodate you (and your family) as well as providing a company car, flights and medical insurance.
