New firm starts waste collection in Abu Dhabi

The Centre of Waste Management in Abu Dhabi has added a new waste collection company to collect waste in the Abu Dhabi Island.

Waste collection firm in Abu DhabiLavajet, which had won a Dh300-million contract in March, started operations on July 10 along with Averda, another company which had renewed its contract for waste collection.

Instead of the old red vehicles which used to collect waste, the Capital has green vehicles and green bins now 
in the city.

These two companies are in charge of solid waste collection, cleaning, street sweeping and special services.

Talking to Khaleej Times on Wednesday, Jamal Al Jeetawi, technical advisor at the Centre of Waste Management, said that it is a very high-profile project where the emirate and the centre desire to develop a world-class, sustainable waste management system and make Abu Dhabi one of the world’s top five cleanest cities.

The contracts, set for five years, are part of the city’s development initiatives outlined in its ‘Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision’.
