Abu Dhabi, UAE, 18th November 2009 – The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi today announced that 20 buses will transport participants, for free, to the ‘Walk UAE 2009’ event to the YAS Marina Circuit track on Yas Island.
More than 10,000 participants are expected to take part of this year’s charity walkathon, part of a national campaign against diabetes, and DoT has pledged its support by transporting participants to and from the event on Yas Island, in a fleet of air conditioned buses. The buses will leave from Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station on Friday 20th November at 2 pm and will return to Abu Dhabi at 7pm.
HE Eng. Khalid Mohamed Hashim, Executive Director of Land Transport Sector, Department of Transport, said:
“The DoT is privileged to be the ‘Official Transporter’ for this campaign and are proud to be taking an active part in tackling diabetes. The UAE, regrettably, has one of the world’s highest numbers of people with diabetes. Therefore it is vital that we raise the awareness of the devastating effects of this disease on health, economic and social aspects and to help our country and our citizens start to combat it.”
“DoT is proud to serve its community and we are delighted to facilitate all transportation needs and to help support society-centric initiatives, especially in the healthcare domain”, he added.
