ADDED held at Abu Dhabi Mall a three-day consumer awareness platform marking the 12th GCC Consumer Protection Day which was organized this year under the guise of “Towards Safe Online Shopping.”
Opening the platform, Mr. Mohamed Munif Al Mansoori, Executive Director of ADDED’s Business Centre, stressed the Department’s commitment to contribute to the GCC awareness campaign and implement the Campaign’s goal to ensure the safety of online shopping amid the significant increase in the volume of e-commerce in the GCC.
Mr. Al Mansoori stated ADDED’s commitment to support the efforts of the Ministry of Economy’s Higher Committee for Consumer Protection to adopt mechanisms for protecting consumers’ rights in terms of ensuring the application of exchange policy and verifying the quality of products and safety of payment operations.
“The Department’s campaign will continue at shopping centers in the Emirate’s three regions, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, during which booklets and guides will be given to consumers to raise their awareness about the proper methods of online shopping,” added Al Mansoori.
Mr. Al Mansoori mentioned that the Emirate’s market is witnessing increased volume in e-commerce operations in accordance with the Federal Law 24 of 2006 on Consumers, the GCC’s first enforceable consumer protection law.
“The Campaign is part of ADDED’s 2017 plan addressing several consumer-related topics,” said Al Mansoori, calling upon consumers to communicate with the Department through Abu Dhabi government’s contact center “800555” to report any illegal acts by individuals and business owners, as well as any violations to consumers’ rights.
During the Department’s platform, awareness brochures are given to visitors and short films displayed on screens at the shopping malls in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, in addition to the other major shopping outlets such as Carrefour, Lulu Hyper Market and COOP to raise consumers’ awareness about safe shopping.
