Abu Dhabi adopts new school bus safety measures after tragedy

The School Transport Executive Committee in Abu Dhabi has announced that it has adopted a series of new regulatory measures intended to promote and improve safety of the school transport system.

The measures include installing specific safety seat belts in school buses and the adoption of an integrated training programme to qualify school bus drivers and escorts.

The move comes as an Abu Dhabi court prepares to give its verdict on February 8 over the death of a four-year-old Indian girl who suffocated in her school bus on a hot day in Abu Dhabi last year.

Naziha Lal Ahmed, a kindergarten student of Al-Worood Academy Private School, was found dead after apparently suffocating inside the locked bus in October. More info
