AL GHARBIYA – The speed limit on all roads within residential areas in Al Gharbiya will range from 20 to 40 kmh according to a rule which will come into effect on January 1.
The decision, taken in cooperation with the Department of Transport (DoT), Abu Dhabi Traffic and Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Municipalities, comes as part of the efforts made to enhance traffic safety on external and internal roads of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
According to Hamoud Humaid Al Mansouri, Director General of the Western region Municipality, the strategy to restructure the speed limit comes following an integrated study made by a committee comprising experts and engineers from Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Western Region Municipalities along with the Department of Traffic and Patrols of Abu Dhabi police and the DoT.
“A plan of action has been laid down to modify the speed limit on roads in the western region depending on the blueprints of roads and the number of entries and exits,” as Al Mansouri pointed out.
He added that the municipality will undertake awareness programmes to enlighten motorists about the new speed limits.
